What is environmental management in aviation?

Environmental management is a series of management processes used by airlines, airports and airport operators to identify, control and reduce any environmental impacts from their operations and increase the environmental sustainability and social responsibility. The airline and airport business is complex and global, covering activities from flight operations, ground handling, and catering to maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and airport operations in all manner of climates and surroundings. The environmental system will integrate different sections with the purpose to setting policy, goals and targets or identifying environmental issues.

The identification of environmental aspects and impacts will include but not limited to the following:

  2. Water management
  3. Waste management
  4. Aircraft noise
  5. Energy conservation
  6. Birds and wild life
  7. Carbon emissions, etc.
